Bereshit | Genesis

The Paintings

"In the beginning, Source of Life created the heavens and the earth..."

These paintings are visual midrash (sacred commentary) on the first Book of the Bible, Bereshit | Genesis, each one corresponding to each of the twelve chapters or Torah portions.

Each work touches a timeless moment in the ancient narrative about the paradox and struggle of being human on a divine path.

These works touch timeless moments in the ancient narrative about the paradox and struggle of being human on a divine path and can be a portal to transform that experience into presence.

Signed Giclée prints are available. Explore individual paintings below for details.

These works can now be seen on Ritualwell through January 2026.

Behind the Gallery

The paintings were the culmination of a two year study process in visual midrash led by Debra Linesch.  Visual midrash creates space to stay inside the complexity of Torah, God, and Jewish identity, without turning away.  I am deeply grateful to her.

All of the original works are oil on wood, 16 x 22 inches.

Prints are 16 x 20 inches with a white border.
