To go or not to go....The Women's March

This weekend there are two political marches: Saturday, Jan 20 and  Jan 21.  It is with an ache in my heart that I will attend neither. Last year, the Women's March was balm to the ragged wound of the election. My personal question, as with many others since then has been: what do I do?  What is my role in sorting out this mess?  After a brief stint working on Capitol Hill after college, I knew I was not a political animal.  It is only now that I accept my gifts are in other realms. Specific efforts toward political action are usually blocked. Case in point: right before the election, I had tickets to go to Youngstown, Ohio to help Executive Women for Her get out the vote.  I didn't feel well and questioned whether to go or stay to video voters with Russel Mulock, my then-partner in my then-business, True Voice Video. It felt vital to know what "doing" would matter.  I put the question to the I Ching (used the Toltec).  The personal answer was clear: "too little, too late" for my participation in Ohio.  More importantly, the hexagram itself spoke of a time of extreme polarization and general chaos and discord. Shocked, I chose to stay and video. It was profound. Even though most of the videos didn't get processed and released, they still feel relevant.   You can see some of our pre-election videos on Russel's YouTube channel.  Some are funny and sad.  The one with Tamar Frankiel is arresting.

The election brought The Last Dream front and center.  The book suddenly felt necessary.  America's car had just driven over the ledge and was tottering in the balance.  How could writing possibly matter?  In one of the dreams specifically seeded for the book, I was being chased and called out to my sister to bring help.  She brought me back a pen.  So, I must continue my journey here.

It's a blessing that we're not all the same.  Recognizing what is truly of you, is not just a gift to yourself, it creates healing all around you.  And, it still feels very sad not to join my brothers and sisters marching this weekend.
