Dream Compass

Ever wonder how birds know how to navigate home?  They have an internal "quantum compass" activated by an extra protein in their eyes that guides them along the earth's magnetic lay lines.  Humans have to use technology -  compass, radar, ludar, etc...  How do we navigate towards the purpose of our lives, our internal home?  Dreams are a kind of technology to see the magnetic lay lines of consciousness.  Crazy, scary, silly or mundane, they come to wake us up to what we are not seeing, how we need to adjust our course.  I recently had a dream in which I felt devastating regret. I was sad and confused by the dream.  Later that day,  I read Tom McCallum's post quoting Nietzsche: "My formula for greatness in a human being is amor fati: that one wants nothing to be different, not forward, not backward, not in all eternity.  Not merely bear what is necessary, still less conceal it - all idealism is mendaciousness in the face of what is necessary -- but love it."  No question, I've drunk the koolaid of our time which equates greatness with achievement, whether riches/fame or a specific form of home/family/relationship.  Is the dream asking me to inhabit a new definition of greatness?  One that holds past and future mistakes and failures as jewels in the crown of life, rather than as poison arrows?  Is Dream-maker trying to wake me up to an ingrained habit of regret?  The incredibly complex navigation system in birds is constantly adjusting their flight.   Next time you have a dream, take a minute to feel it without judging. Maybe your internal quantum compass is being activated to follow the lay lines of your own precious life.
