Day 3: Heart of Lovingkindness

Counting days puts a frame around time, videos the day. 24 hours to know something about something, or not. Today, what is the heart of lovingkindness? This morning, I volunteered for Mending Spirit, helping 6th and 7th graders to create healing window paintings. These kids are working on healing trauma in their neighborhoods, particularly from gun violence. Let me tell you, there were some broken hearts in those paintings, as well as color, light and movement. The kids were amazing and their artwork inspiring and wrenching . Aside from what they’re dealing with in their neighborhoods, the school itself is so dilapidated. It would be hard not to lose heart having to show up there every day. Friendship and the Wissahickon showed another facet of the heart and healing today. Whew! This counting business is getting real.
